TAOS, N.M. —A high speed chase involving a stolen tow truck was recently caught on camera, and three teens were behind the wheel, according to state police.

The kids, from Oklahoma, were ages 14, 15 and 16.

Police said they stole their uncle’s car, and ran away from home. The car ran out of gas and they ditched it in Santa Rosa, where they were able to find a tow truck with the keys inside.

As the teens cruised along Interstate 25 near Las Vegas, the horse trailer on the back apparently flew off. State police spotted them and chased the truck for about an hour.

Finally, near Springer, police put down stop sticks which blew out all the tires and slowed the pursuit dramatically down to about 20 miles per hour.

That brought the joyriders to a halt.

Though the chase was long, police said it wasn’t very fast, as they were unable to speed.

State police said the only good thing here is the tow truck had a setting that wouldn’t let it drive faster than 75 miles per hour.

Nobody was hurt in the chase.

The teens were booked into the Juvenile Detention Center in Taos. They face felony charges.
